Support and training, from start to finish.
When you schedule a visit, a Pilot Plant Team of food production and food safety specialists is assigned to you. This team includes a Plant Manager, Process Engineer, Packaging Engineer, Quality Specialist, Facilities Support Technician and Facilities Test Coordinator. All are dedicated to making sure your session here goes as quickly and smoothly as possible.
We've designed for flexibility.
A flexible configuration of processing and packaging options permits a virtually seamless production sequence. (Customers supply their own ingredients. Full-sized batch minimum: 80 gallons. Lab: 8 gallons.) For experimental purposes, we offer filter sterilizing for dosing of flavors, enzymes and other minor product components.
Perhaps the greatest advantage of testing at the Pilot Plant is the wide range of processing equipment you'll have access to—including Plate, Tubular and Direct Heating systems, as well as various types of mix and blend systems.
From bench-top to full-scale production equipment.
Whether you require test-running Pasteurized, Ultra-Pasteurized or Aseptic applications, we can do it all at the Pilot Plant—on lab-scale equipment or near full-sized systems.
You can process and package:
- Fruit juices
- Fruit concentrates
- Wine
- Soy products
- Dairy and non-dairy milk
- Soups
- Sauces
- Broths
- Salad dressings
- And more
Full-sized processing equipment
For large-scale projects, the Tetra Therm® Aseptic Maxi heat exchanger is a production-size plate system capable of simulating most industrial processes.
The Tetra Therm® Aseptic Flex heat exchanger, with its unique tubular design, enables temperature-sensitive pulpy juices, thick soups and sauces to be processed.
The Tetra Therm® Aseptic VTIS Direct Steam Injection System is designed for Ultra-Pasteurized or UHT milk products and other low-acid products.
Packaging equipment
The Tetra Pak Pilot Plant also provides a range of packaging options, from bench-top to full-scale production. We can accommodate many combinations of Tetra Pak® filling systems and processes, including: the Tetra Brik® Aseptic Model 9 (250 ml. package), Tetra Prisma® Aseptic Model 19 (250 ml. package) and Tetra Brik® Aseptic Model 21 (1000 ml. package). Equipment availability depends on scheduling.
Laboratory
For assuring process effectiveness, package integrity and product stability, the pilot laboratory offers wide-ranging testing capabilities. There's an on-staff food scientist whose specialty is food microbiology. In addition, the plant includes a large incubation room for quality control testing of finished product, as well as a large cooler for storing and thawing product and incoming ingredients.
Quality control capabilities include:
- pH
- Viscosity
- Percent solids
- Specific gravity
- Soluble solids
- Microbiological testing
Lab-scale equipment
The Stericab™ clean hood provides a safe, hygienic environment for making ultra-clean transfers to manually filled containers.
The Tetra Therm™ Aseptic Pilot is a miniature processing system for studying formulation and process/ingredient stability and flavors.
